I believe that before 1998 ECNZ made enough profit every year to cover all education and healthcare costs. It was a State Owned Enterprise so the profit went into the government coffers. But shares for the boys would be much more attractive if the Corporation could be split into three separate companies. So that ECNZ goldmine was disbanded - and look at where the profits go now!
21 Kathmandu stores to close also. This government has made bad call after bad call and we are now starting see the results of their work with foreclosures. Let's now see how bad this becomes.
Nicola Willis if it is true she is no longer of use to the TPU will discover swiftly and surely just how ruthless these people are. I would not like to be beholden to them.
This morning the headline we paid 400 million for each helicopter Australia 82 million each talk about playing favourites. Judith not a good negotiator too busy greasing up to the American war machine. America the biggest war mongers in the world China the defender of peace hasn't been in a war for at least 45 years. Know who Id rather be friends with.
🤔 In defence of defence helicopters, depending on the exact model they are buying they are used for mainly DOMESTIC use as in disasters, Search & Rescue etc. I can attest that when you are dangling off the strop on a helicopter either being lowered into a search area or being extracted (with or without the lost/found party) you appreciate if it is not an ageing dinosaur prone to breaking down or eventually falling out of the sky when parts fail 😱 or you have to wait in the cold & dark because it has broken & can't get to you! Sure, they also get deployed overseas, but again usually for disasters, or even peace-keeping at times. SOME things are under the "Defence" budget but aren't strictly for "war" situations. But your point stands about CHOICES of expenditure when we are told there is no $$$ for health, housing, education etc etc 💩🤡
And no need to comment on the USA embarassment of renaming to Dept of War - though if you are going to blow foreign nationals out of the water in a boat in international waters... ⁉️ It's a war crime so shades of things to come 🤢
And yeah, despite being extremely frugal with electricity usage as a "low user" my monthly accounts have increased despite the power co telling me I used less power than the same time last year 🤬 The whole "restructuring" was predicted to be a disaster for consumers at the start - "I told you so" doesn't help pay the bills though!
There is a very easy solution. The next labour led government needs to tax all dividends from a state owned enterprise at source, at 80%. Director salaries capped at $200k. After all the sale under Key only offered 2% of the shares to ordinary Kiwis the rest was sold to investor funds and now we export billions of dollars. The sale itself was a disaster. Imagine if I was a real estate agent and I valued your home at $1,100,000 then I bought you an offer for $470,000. I would be very surprised if you accepted that offer, I certainly wouldn’t have given you a Knighthood.

Excellent as always MT. However, I'm pretty sure you have misspelled Max Rashbrooke with a "u"...

Job losses: the poor people looking for new jobs.
